There is a tradition in Italy called Lucchetti d'amore where lovers will carve their initials into locks and attach them onto chains, bridges, or fences near a river. Then, once they are locked, they will throw the key into the river, forever sealing their love to that place, at least until the Polizia come around on with metal clippers.
This blog started out as a log of my antics studying abroad in Rome, but has now morphed into the inevitable predicaments I find myself in while travelling in general.

Toilets and Locks: Florentine style
As my friends and I were trying to find the Academy in Florence (where the real statue of David is, but unfortunately another place where photos are not allowed, so I'm forced to tell you about toilets instead), we took a short cut through an open passage in a random building and we came across a contemporary art exhibit. The theme of the art works was "toilet". Below are some pictures of the highlights which range from the extremely disturbing (the mouth one, need I say more, because that's disgusting) to the horrifying (the office chair one, who needs that kind of trauma in the work place?) to my personal favorite (the see saw one, of course, what an image) to one that seems to have grown a gnome out of itself (who doesn't love a good gnome, Dennis?) Enjoy.
