To Infinity and...Sperlonga?

Friday a group of us set out for Sperlonga, a little seaside town an hour outside of Rome (which was good because Rome was having a public transportation strike and they shut down the buses, Fridays are a popular strike day because then the week workers get a three day weekend) We get there and the town is off season, so we had to wait 40 minutes for a bus to take us to the town, but it was worth it because we reached the beach just as the sun came out and it was, well I'll just show you:

We walked along the beach for a while and ate lunch staring out at the Mediterranean. Then Tony decided he wanted to go for a swim, stripped down to his boxers and jumped in. I got hypothermia just watching, but he said it wasn't that bad (as he turned blue). Then we walked along some more and reached the town and wandered through some gardens and some more beach.

Then we came across a little museum and the Grotto of Tiberius and the ruins that were his villa. We wandered around for almost 3 hours before heading back to the town which was winding and adorable. Nothing too exciting happened beyond that unless you count buying gelato and seeing the most adorable old men sitting on a bench together:

After some more walking, we took another bus over to another nearby town called Fondi, whose biggest tourist attraction is an old castle, which we went to the top of and watched the sun set. We asked the guy in the castle where a good restaurant to eat was and he said he didn't know specifically but that if we walked around we would find one. Note: If an Italian does not know where any restaurants are there is a problem. We walked around for 20 minutes and there were none to be found. We finally asked a girl who pointed us in the right direction, but the only one on the street was charging €30 more than we were willing to spend. So we went to a small cafe and wandered back to the bus stop and caught the train back to Rome. When I got back my roommates said it had been raining and hailing in Rome all day. Sperlonga for the win.

  1. Clara,
I think you should write a book--I would buy it and then be jealous that I could not have the same experience! Jane Clare and Kristina are here for spring break--Kegan comes tomorrow--with Grammie and Grandpa. Full house, but we will miss you! Hope that you have the adventure of a lifetime--Love, Aunt Mary

  2. Thanks Aunt Mary! I was skyping John yesterday and he was at my house for his spring break with my parents and Gwen, so hearing about your full house for spring break makes me jealous of all the family time! Pray for me, I'll be in Egypt for my spring break, and I don't know any Arabic, so I'll need all the help from Jesus I can get. Miss you guys!
    Love,
    Clara
