Tea, Beatles, Pub.

We continued our immersion of British culture and caught a double-decker bus to Harrods where we were quickly overwhelmed by extravagance. This is the British equivalent of a Saks Fifth Avenue (I assume, as I've never been to the latter). There is plenty to do in the largest store in London, which covers five acres of land and boasts 330 departments. But we were solely interested in having a high tea experience, and what so often happens in large stores is that you can find everything but what you are looking for. We found shoes, clothes, chocolate, bears, sport gear, and jewelry (I will admit I got a little distracted form our goal in this last department), but we had to ask 3 different people where the restaurant was. We eventually got into a lift and it opened up into the restaurant, but it was gated off. I was willing to give up but as fate would have it a nice gentleman saw us and offered to personally bring us to the right spot. So we did get our British tea and it was delicious.

To continue our cultural experience we headed over to Abbey Road, where you know of course the Beatles had their recording studio and the famous cover of their album. The only thing to do on Abbey Road is to dodge cars and try to re-create that picture. I don't know how many tourists get hit by cars every year, but my guess is it has to be significant because some of us came close.

There is a tradition for Beatles fans to sign their names and possibly some favorite lyrics on te wall outside of the studio. I'm pretty sure someone comes along often to re-paint the wall, because it would be illegible by now. That did not stop us from adding our own marks.

After narrowly avoiding the cars during our photo shoot of the famous crosswalk we decided it was time to end the day with yet more tradition! We went to one of Bethany's favorite pubs (I think it's her favorite because it's about a meter away from her flat) and, yes I got the stereotypical fish and chips and they were delicious. What you didn't guess was that they pub had Aspall on tap, which is a fermented apple cider. I feel my transformation has become complete. Cheers!
